Every year fitness-related goals top the list of New Year's resolutions. "Lose weight." "Exercise regularly." "Go to the gym three times a week." Now that we're a couple weeks into the New Year however it's easy to start losing steam and motivation. Sure going to the gym might be a good idea but the couch is just so appealing and that latest episode of your favorite show is calling your name. Sticking to a diet sounded like a good idea but ordering takeout pizza is so much easier than cooking your own food.
If you need a little extra motivation to stay focused on your fitness goals we're here to help. After all at UpDesk we're no strangers to health and well-being. In fact the reason we're so passionate about our standing desks is because of all the associated health benefits. Our stand up desks help people focus better burn more calories and stay motivated. While we're excited that our standing desks enable people to have more productive work days we also care about their well-being when they're outside of the office. That's why we're excited to give you a few of our best pointers for how to attain your fitness goals in 2015:
1. Set Realistic Goals
With the advent of a New Year it's easy to dream big and set inspirational goals. Backpack across the Sierra Nevadas? Work out for at least an hour a day? Never ever even glance at junk food? Check check and check. 2015 is going to be the year of ultimate health and fitness. There's nothing wrong with making goals like these but it's always a good idea to start with goals that are realistic and attainable. For instance rather than saying you'll work out every single day rain or shine start by saying you'll work out three times a week. Setting realistic goals will keep you on track and give you extra energy and motivation. You're not always going to live up to your goals. Rome wasn't built in a day after all. But having a clear cut plan of what you want to accomplish and how you're going to do it will help navigate the bumps along the way.
2. Make Fitness Part of Your Daily Routine
Start by making simple changes to your everyday routine. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Walk during your lunch break. Take mini breaks to stretch your legs. Heck you can even exercise at your desk. Of course you should also make sure that you're finding the perfect balance between sitting and standing each day. Simply switch your height adjustable desk from sitting to standing mode to make sure you're getting the right balance of sitting and standing. Not sure how much you should be sitting and standing? There's an app for that!
3. Don't Lose Heart
There will be days where you don't achieve your goals. Rather than throwing in the towel though keep pressing on. You won't be able to achieve your goals overnight but hard work and dedication will eventually enable you to succeed.
