Many people with back problems prefer to stand rather than sit down. People overwhelmingly report that standing eases the pain. We've heard stories of all kinds of make-shift alternatives people have created to stand at their desk and we want to help these people have all the conveniences and style of a full desk while giving them the option to stand as they need to. The Carolina Back Institute reported that "sitting increases low back pressure five times more than standing." One of the big motivators to stand up is simply prevention of disease and sickness. One of the lesser-known benefits to standing is that it actually increases productivity. So beyond standing to feel better or be healthier you're also getting more work done. We'd say that's icing on the cake but icing or the cake would probably negate a day's worth of standing so let's just say that it's an additional incentive to stand at your desk.
